Lidded Bowls - with Norm Cloutier
  • Thursday July 9th
  • Hybrid Meeting - Live at NC State Crafts Center and via Zoom
  • Zoom call opens a 6:15 for socializing
  • Meeting begins at 6:45 PM
  • Demonstration begins at 7 PM

So you've made more than a few bowls, and maybe you've already made a box or two. Have you considered combining the two?

In this demo Norm will walk us through his approach, method and techniques for turning those smallish bowl blanks into lovely keepsake or jewelry boxes using just basic turning tools and a little planning. Bowls are great, but adding a matching lid and a small exotic knob or finial makes all the difference.

Bowl orientation doesn't normally lend itself to good-fitting lids, but by cutting them from the same blank you can sidestep any wood-movement concerns.

In addition, Norm will show his method for turning bowl & platter off-cuts into roughly 2-inch lidded spice bowls. Don't throw away those corners! With just a belt sander and a contrasting narrow piece of flat stock you can make these tiny pieces using similar techniques, with a few hard-learned tricks thrown in for good measure.
